'River water, its not much fun at the best of times especially when the Nepolise Armee was once again in retreat, blocked the path of the four battalions. As the ranks of Todoroni militia bunched up at the rivers edge and began to wail and croak at the possible soaking they were about to get (a Todoroni hates spoiling his fancy uniform almost as much as getting his blood on it in battle) a panic began towards the rear. The Krautians were coming, they had caught up.
It looked like a rout and then inglorious surrender was on the cards and the Dwarves hammed it up, their Uhlan Boar riders waving their lances and calling to the Todoroni. They would wait until half the Nepolise drowned or lay down and cried before cantering in and rounding the remaining useless Toads up. Half an hour passed and the Uhlans rode closer, this was too easy, all the Todoroni clustered up and helpless, they slung their short lances to their backs and folded their arms. Too easy.
It was then that the pride of the Nepolise, the Cacciatore Natterjacki Di Molto Splendido struck. The ground rumbled and the hussars erupted from their hidden positions inside the huddling Todoroni Infantry. With wickedly curved and very sharp sabres and some seriously impressive uniforms with more gold braid than a Dwarven General they hurtled into the Uhlans. The Dwarves had no time to think about defence, the spectacle of a hundred Todoroni glittering on their baby hippopotamus mounts made their jaws drop.
The Boars parted like skittles, the Hippo riders trampling them down and chopping with delicate grace from side to side. After a few seconds the Dwarves spurred their Boars and fled. The Militia cheered and the Hussars bowed and waved. Heroes once again.
Shame the hopping infantry did not know that the threat of a wet Busby had provoked this display of valour!'
Todoroni Hussars
It is strange that the cavalry of Nepolise enjoy such a better reputation than that of the rank and file infantry but they have won some notable victories. The hussars of the Splendido ride the docile Baby Hippo that all mounted Todoroni use, these creatures must be worked up into a charge but are perfect mounts for Toads. This is because the large Hippo is such a large and stable mount that even the most ornate uniforms will not be dispatched while cantering along.
Uniform
The uniform consists of a cream tunic, red breeches with a gold stripe down the side, purple gloves, a black bearskin with gold and red tassels and tan boots. Facing colours and epaulettes (cuffs, collars, etc.) are golden or tan Equipment is black and brown, with equipment straps being of tan leather.
Flintloque Information
In Flintloque a Toad Hussar is treated as a Little or Big Todoroni mounted on a Baby Hippo, they are armed with a Sword. Some Todoroni Hussars also carry a pistol or even carbine for extra protection.
Slaughterloo Information
The Cacciatore Spendido are classed as Light Cavalry. There ideal role is as scouts or in support of infantry, they are good cavalry but you could not expect them to compete with the highest skilled cavalry in the Grand Alliance armies on equal terms.
